NEED FOR SPEED! Increasing the speed of steel construction by 50% by 2025

We feel the need for speed! The American Institute of Steel Construction has a big, hairy, audacious goal – our goal is to increase the speed at which a steel project (either a building or bridge) can be designed, fabricated, and erected by 50% by the end of 2025. The steel construction industry already has made significant progress to achieve this goal.

Designers, researchers, fabricators, product manufacturers, and other steel construction industry stakeholders are introducing new systems and products that increase the speed of steel construction and fabrication. Systems, such as SpeedCore, a revolutionary lateral force resisting system, can be constructed much quicker than other traditional systems. Robotic welding systems and novel connection products accelerate fabrication. And, AISC is working to identify and initiate key strategic projects that will create additional opportunities to increase the speed at which a steel-framed project can be completed.

In this presentation, attendees will learn about recent advances in the design, fabrication, and erection of steel structures that contribute to achieving the goal as well as a glimpse into AISC’s ongoing and future initiatives.
