Advancements in Flood Resilience

Advancements in flood resilience standards are occurring in the public and private sector that are leading toward greater climate resilience for the nation. In standards development the ASCE 7-22, Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures, Supplement 2, was published as an addition to ASCE 7-22. The ASCE 7-22 Supplement 2 (ASCE 7-22-S2) provides enhanced flood load requirements by making an adjustment to the design flood elevation based on the building risk category and by making changes to multiple flood load calculations to make the approach more consistent with the approach to calculate other hazards, such as wind and seismic loads.

This session will highlight the advancements in flood resilience from the public and private sector and the ways in which they can be implemented to increase climate resilience for the nation.
