Innovative Workforce Development: Collaborative Partnerships Addressing Diversity & Inclusion with Gen Z
The construction industry is suffering from a lack of skilled workers as younger generations are pushed toward college educations and away from traditional vocational trades. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, women comprise only 9% of the construction industry workforce. Gen Z – young women in particular – is not being shown the benefits of a career in construction.
This session will demonstrate how an idea at the local level became reality through the collaboration of industry organizations.
The Let’s Build Construction Camp for Girls is a free program designed for girls age 14 to 18 to explore the construction trades, architecture, engineering, and construction manufacturing through hands-on experiences and field trips. The camp is 100% underwritten by sponsorship support from members of CSI (Construction Specifications Institute), Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC), and other industry-related companies. The purpose of a free camp is to ensure there are no financial barriers for families to overcome to support their daughter’s dreams of working in the AEC industry.
