The BIM Council of the National Institute of Building Sciences has been establishing the structure and content for the next revision of the National BIM Standard – United States (NBIMS-US). In this session, we will present on the work to date as well as forecast the remaining work to be accomplished. The planning committee was formed in the spring of 2019 and has established a number of top priorities for revision and update of the NBIMS-US. We are coordinating with national and international groups such as Federal Agencies, BIM Forum, the AIA Documents Committee, and the BuildingSMART International. We have shifted to an agile process with a focus on developing and publishing smaller modules throughout a revision cycle. We have established working groups to concentrate on modules with focused content update efforts for COBie, BIM Uses, and BIM Execution Planning. Additionally, we are creating a Core BIM Requirements that pulls all of the elements together, cohesively. In this session, we will present an overview of the NBIMS 2020 Roadmap, organizational structure, the working groups’ status, and share how people can get involved.
